Write a critique on a book, movie, game, etc.
Think about our compare and contrast activity from the book and the interview. In your opinion, which account (the book or the interview) gives you a better understanding of the story?
What did you do with your extended time off?
Any fun in the snow? Post your pics and stories here. We are almost halfway through Night by Elie Wiesel. Elie was very close to your age (15 years old) when he was taken to the Birkenau-Auschwitz camp with his entire family, and nearly 75 others, in a cattle car. We know he was immediately separated from his mother and sisters. He was never to see some of them again. We also know of the horrific treatments that many of the Jews suffered.
Could you imagine going through that experience at your age? What has stuck out to you from our novel to this point? What are your thoughts so far? Writing can mean many things to different people. Just the thought of it may scare you to death, bore you to tears, or cause of wave of nausea to overcome you. On the flip side, it may be the outlet you use to express your feelings or emotions. You may have fun writing stories, poetry, or maybe even music.
For me, writing has always come pretty naturally. But that doesn't mean that I haven't had to work at it. I have had to hone my skills in grammar, diction (word choice) and producing required types of writing (expository, narrative, argumentative, etc.) when prompted. I'm not sure if all of this comes naturally to anyone. That's why we're here -- to work on it! Please take time to let me know how you feel about writing. Be honest and reflective. As I've mentioned, you have a writing assessment coming up in February. Let's get ready! In terms of writing, I want to know your frustrations, goals and/or expectations for this class? For this blog post, create a thesis statement using the formula you learned in class: I do/do not like to write "because" reason 1 + reason 2 + reason 3 = thesis. As always, please feel free to contact me with questions. Happy blogging! ~ Mrs. Adams |
